What a laundry renovation usually involves
- Strip-out of the old trough, cabinets and tiles, and rubbish removal
- New laundry joinery — overheads, base cabinets and benchtop
- Floor and splashback tiling
- Reconnecting the washing machine taps and waste

When it costs more
- Moving the trough or washing machine to a different wall means new plumbing.
- Stone benchtops or custom joinery instead of the standard range.
- Hidden damage — laundries are wet areas too, and older ones often have it. It is priced in writing before any extra work happens.
Do it with the bathroom
Laundries are the room most often left until last, and they are cheapest when they are not: the demolition, the trades and the skip are already on site for the bathroom. Ask for both on the same free inspection.
